Much of the debate in the printed media and TV and Radio
in the past month has centred on whether or not the government should divide the country
into "rich and poor" regions, with the poor still retaining "Objective 1" status for a
share-out of EU aid. The proposed reforms of the EU Budget (and in particular CAP) have
also heated the debate on Ireland's position as regards future financial assistance from
Brussels.
